Christmas Floral Workshop

Tuesday 22nd October at 2pm in Saltford Hall.

Visitors are welcome – pay on the door £8. Bring secateurs, foliage & decorations or buy them on the day.

Tuesday 24th September – Flower Demonstration with Selena Denham at 2pm in Saltford Hall.

This is a fun afternoon watching a professional florist create some modern flower arrangements. All flower designs go into the raffle.

Refreshments will be available and there will be a plants on the sales table.

 

Members’ Day Tea was very enjoyable with lots of delicious sandwiches and cake. We sat in Christine’s beautiful garden surrounded by flowers. Congratulations go to Julie Latham who won our flower competition, ‘Less is more’.

Tuesday 27th August – Members’ Day Tea at Christine’s House 2pm.

Christine is hosting our Members’ Day Tea this year, it will be great to get together & swop news over a sumptuous tea. Our flower competition title this year is ‘less is more’, do keep it small as space is limited.

Tuesday 23rd July – Flower Club outing to Milton Lodge Gardens near Wells.

We had a wonderful visit to Milton Lodge Gardens, we were greeted by Simon who introduced us to his family home and made sure everyone had refreshments and cake. The gardener gave us a guided tour which was fascinating. The views are stunning and the borders are very colourful.

Tuesday 25th June 2pm Saltford Hall – Flower Demonstration ‘On the Spot’ by Elizabeth Witcomb

A demonstration with a difference! Come and see how Elizabeth produces some amazing designs on the spot using a selection of containers and flowers she hasn’t seen beforehand.

Visit our sales table for a variety of useful items and do buy plenty of raffle tickets to stand a chance of winning a super arrangement.

Tuesday 23rd April 2023 – Flower Demonstration ‘Out of Africa’ by Jenny York

Jenny wowed us with her floral designs, she is an entertaining demonstrator with amusing tales of her time in Africa in the Foreign Office. The picture shows an arrangement tied into the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to South Africa.

Easter Bonnet Workshop £15 – Tuesday 26th April Saltford Hall 2pm.

This is a fun activity just before Easter, using a small bonnet to create a door or hat arrangement using wreath making techniques or similar flower arrangements.  

Provided for Workshop participants:
• Bonnets, eggs, ribbons
• Chicks, rabbits
• Artificial or fresh flowers
• Foliage e.g. Ivy, cornice

Allison Finch delighted us with a fascinating demonstration entitled ‘The Traditions of Christmas’. Some very happy people left with amazing flower arrangements.

Topiary Eggs, Trees, Cracked Egg, Flying Cup:

  • A pot with dry oasis inserted slightly higher than the pot.
  • A stick & Oasis ball on top or roughly cut a block into a circle.
  • Bring greenery, eggs, ribbons, cocktail sticks and flowers.
  • Floral Fixing Tack or glue gun
  • Cup & Saucer, fork or wire
  • Large cracked

Held at Saltford Golf Club, started with a meal at 12:30 followed by a Silent Auction and Five Flowers Competition with the AGM at 2pm. Please see the Minutes for reference.

October Wreath Workshop

The afternoon was really productive with lots of members & visitors making excellent wreaths. Ann & Val gave a quick demonstration on what to do and everyone was given a moss covered ring to work with. Plenty of foliage was available to decorate our rings and there were fir cones, berries and ribbons for adding decorations.

Members’ Day Tea 
A wonderful tea was provided by Christine & Julie. It was lovely to chat to members in the relaxed setting of Christine’s garden which was so pretty.

Our June demonstration was by Caroline Cooper entitled ‘The Language of Flowers’. Beautiful arrangements and a very interesting afternoon.

Our Practice on Tuesday 24th May making roses and small table arrangements in jam jars.

Some members of Saltford & Keynsham Flower Club went to Salisbury Cathedral to see the Celebration: A Festival of Flowers.

What amazing arrangements- this  rainbow arch represents the contribution of keyworkers and volunteers to their communities during the pandemic.

To commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee  a replica of the Queen’s Coronation robe made from purple pampas grass, gilded dried foliage and ferns was displayed before the High Alter. 

Tuesday 26th Aprl 14:00- Demonstration with Leslie Hunt  ‘Beside the Seaside’.

What a treat, we had an uplifting and interesting demonstration, tempting us with better weather to stroll along the beach and collect things for our arrangements. It was very enjoyable, please see the Pictures page.

Don’t forget to sign up for our  outing on Tuesday 26th July to The American Museum and Members’ Day Tea on Tuesday 23rd August which will be held in Christine Pidcock’s garden.

National Flower Arranging Day is on Friday 6th May, the idea is to promote our club and it would be great if you could do a few small arrangements and leave them somewhere for people to take home. Christine is going to put an arrangement in Keynsham Library to advertise our club.

Our May practice session on Tuesday 24th we will be making Ribbon stars, Roses & Jubilee Flowers.

On Saturday July 2nd we will have a table at the Affiliated Clubs’ Morning in Saltford Hall please let Janet know if you can help for a few hours.

March 22nd  – Practice Meeting It’s All about the Vase.

Members brought their favourite vase and we did a variety of arrangements using different mechanics. 

Annual General Meeting

We held our AGM at Saltford Golf Club preceded by a very good lunch. Please read the minutes for details.The Flower Arrangement competition ‘Winterwonder Land’ was won by Bunty Collett and runner up was Sue Heath. See the photos on our Pictures page.
Saltford & Keynsham Flower Club aims to bring together people with a love of flowers, plants and foliage, our members range from novices to experienced flower arrangers who are more than willing to pass on their expertise.
We meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 14:00 in Saltford Hall, Wedmore Rd, Saltford, BS31 3BY. Our meetings are varied with demonstrations by skilled floral designers, practice sessions to create specific arrangements, outings to floral events and chances to join in with flower activities during the year. 
Visitors are welcome to both Demonstrations and Practice meetings, come to the Saltford Main Hall and pay on entry, £7 for a demonstration and £6 for a practice. Membership costs £43 for the year. There is a raffle of the stunning arrangements at the demonstration meetings and prizes at the practices. Refreshments are available too.
